Primary Education Studies

About

The BA (Hons) Primary Education Studies (Single Honours) degree is designed for those who aspire to work in education and make a real difference in the lives of children. This course provides a deep understanding of how children learn and develop, while equipping you with the skills to become an inclusive, reflective and effective education practitioner. You will study lifespan development, learning theories, pedagogy and inclusive practice, exploring how social, emotional and psychological factors influence the way learners grow, behave and engage with education. Through hands-on learning and practice-based modules, you’ll learn how to create inclusive environments that nurture individual strengths and support the participation of all students. The programme also introduces you to the ideas of early years pioneer Friedrich Froebel, whose principles of play, exploration and the importance of nature continue to shape contemporary approaches to education. By reflecting on these concepts and linking them to modern practice, you’ll gain valuable insights into how to design meaningful and inclusive learning experiences. Alongside academic study, you’ll develop transferable skills such as communication, critical thinking, teamwork and professional relationship building — essential for working with children, families and colleagues in educational settings. Graduates are well-prepared for careers in primary education, early years teaching, community education, youth support or for progression into postgraduate study, including teacher training programmes such as PGCE. 🌟
